Sheep Camp:Three days of intensive work with Kent, in a small group setting. Any level of dog and handler are welcome.
Lessons: Our place, or yours. Private lessons for the serious trainer and competitor, or group lessons for those new to herding.
We have facilities for all levels of dogs and handlers, and all types of stock; duck, goats, sheep, and cattle. Come and learn to be successful!
Clinics:Training clinics, handling clinics, judging clinics - or a custom clinic designed just for your needs. Let us know!
In-house Training: Too busy to finish out your own dog? Have a dog that needs a good, solid start? Want to get some problems fixed?
Then, our in-house training is for you - and when we're done, we'll show you how to maintain that training. Give us a call.
Clinics are for any number of people, at any level; and the types and topics can be combined to suit your desires. Video taping is widely used, both as a record for the student and to facilitate discussion. A PA system, provided by Kent and designed for clinic distances, is standard fare.
Remember: we will do what is needed to make you successful!
Training Clinics: Here, the focus is on improving the dog's performance. Whether it be solving problems, expanding horizons, or getting a young dog off to a good start, training techniques and methods are key.
Judging Clinics: So, you're competing now, are you? Find out exactly what the judge is looking for - so that you can deliver it!
Just as importantly, the judging clinic provides insight into "good work" - important for ANY dog and handler team, whether on the farm or the trial field!
Handling Clinics: Your dog is trained. How can you best handle this dog, to do the best possible job? That is the focus of this clinic, and you will leave with excellent insight and practice on handling the dog you've got.
Our in-house training program is a good way to put a solid foundation on a young dog, or to polish up a dog with problems - or, to have your dog made into a finished working partner when you are short on time.
And, when the training is done, we'll work with you to make the best use of it.
Kent's approach is unique. Rather than just rush a dog through the mechanics of herding commands, he uses the actions of the stock to help the dog understand what is needed.
That is, his methods are not set in stone: they adjust to the personality and type of each dog, truly maximizing their natural ability and potential.
Hard dogs or soft dogs, keen dogs or laid back dogs, Kent's methods work and produce good, well balanced, and happy working partners.
Whether your aim is sheepdog trialing or farm work, we will create a program for your dog that meets yourgoals.
We stress that -- your goals -- because your dog needs to do your jobs, not adhere to a rote training program.
As an added benefit, our in-house training program has a partnership with Dr. Timothy Jordan, a canine sports medicine specialist.
If your dog should need any veterinary attention while he's with us - you can be assured of a vet that understands a working dog's special needs.
What others say:
"Kent 'reads' dogs in ways that normal people can't.....Now I'm inclined to lighten up on the mechanics of one-way communication (me to the dog), and pay more attention to the dog and his ideas on how to do something." (A. Miller)
