We
begin the training for our Goose Control Dogs by careful selection; if the
raw material isn't right, the end product won't be, either.
It is essential that these dogs come from strong working lines with an
exceptional work ethic. They also must have temprements that make them
easy for an average, non-dog person to handle and work.

All of our
Goose Dogs are strong and seasoned swimmers, since geese will often avoid a
dog by heading into the water. With our dogs, that's not a problem. |

Contrary to
many goose dog providers, we provide a solid foundation of actual herding
training. This includes general obedience, and livestock work -
on land as well as in the water.
Why? Dogs trained strictly "on the
goose job" degenerate into chasing behavior; and that is, quite simply, bad
form. It's bad for your customers to see, it's bad for the dog's long
term working ability, and it's bad for maintaining control over the dog.
But, dogs with a solid foundation training in herding have learned to do
the job right and to be self-reward by doing the job right; and that
professionalism carries through. |
